İstanbul Arkeoloji Müzesi’nde bulunan Ağlayan Kadınlar Lahdi’nden esinlenen bu video çalışması, antik bir yas sahnesini güncel bir bedensel performansa dönüştürür. Lahit üzerinde betimlenen on sekiz farklı kadın figürü, sanatçının kendi bedeni aracılığıyla yeniden canlandırılır. Bu figürler, yalnızca tarihsel bir anın temsilleri değil; Türkiye’de süreklilik gösteren kayıp, ölüm ve toplumsal travmaların zamansız tanıklarıdır. Bitmeyen yas hâli, bireysel bir acının ötesine geçerek kolektif hafızanın taşıyıcısı haline gelir. Sanatçı, bedeni hem bir temsil aracı hem de bir arşiv olarak kullanarak, geçmiş ile şimdi arasında bir yas mekânı kurar. Bu performatif yeniden canlandırma, kadın bedeni üzerinden aktarılan tarihsel ve güncel acılar arasında sessiz ama ısrarlı bir bağ önerir.
Inspired by the Sarcophagus of the Weeping Women in the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, this video work transforms an ancient scene of mourning into a contemporary bodily performance. The eighteen female figures carved on the sarcophagus are reanimated through the artist’s own body. These figures function not merely as historical representations, but as timeless witnesses to the persistent experiences of loss, death, and collective trauma in Turkey.
Endless mourning exceeds individual grief and becomes a carrier of collective memory. By using the body both as a medium and as an archive, the artist constructs a space of mourning between past and present. This performative reenactment proposes a silent yet insistent connection between historical and contemporary forms of suffering transmitted through the female body.
